Giving or receiving an Easter basket doesn’t mean that the contents have to contain high fructose corn syrup, artificial dyes or even soy. An Easter basket can be composed of items with simple ingredients and it can be super tasty! I’ve found health food stores and high-end grocery stores to be the best places to find treats to use in Easter baskets. Of course homemade treats can be made, but sometimes you just want to buy the treats and get on with your life. I know I do!
Being Kind to the Environment is Fun
Millions of easter eggs are purchased every year and cause environmental issues. There’s a better option like these eggs here and my kiddos said they are definitely “kid approved. It’s also easy enough to use paper from your shredder in place of plastic grass to fill baskets and recycle it afterwards.
Keeping It Non-Toxic
How about coloring easter eggs? That’s super fun and there’s natural ways to do this as well. My family has enjoyed this natural dye kit here.
Treat, Treats, Treats
Dried fruit can be found in bulk bins and packages both with or without added sweeteners.
Dates are the ultimate dried fruit in my opinion. They are so incredibly sweet and satisfying. We eat them around the brothaholic household with a side of heavily creamed raw milk.
If you absolutely must have actual candy, organic candy can be easily found especially in health food stores.
Larabars can be found all over the place these days. I’ve even seen them in pharmacies. They’re awesome! They’re sweetened with dates.
I really, really love honey sweetened mints!
Sweet chips like coconut chips can be used and potato chips fried in coconut oil or avocado oil are great too!
Delicious nut butters of all varieties are well-received. They come in nifty, little packets or you can just buy the entire jar. I want the entire jar. Thanks in advance.
If sugar doesn’t bother you, but you just want some cleaner options, these are also great:
Hard candies can be found here.
Chocolate can be found here.
Happy Easter!!!
