Many times when folks begin to want to change their lifestyle for healthier, yet delicious choices (check out my recipes in the sidebar to your right), they become overwhelmed. What? Plastics contain hormone disruptors?! Aluminum can be stored in the brain and contribute to dementia and digestive disorders?! It can make people feel like they are in a total funk when the answers are typically right under their nose. They really are. Not only are they right under their nose, but they can have a pretty good time shopping for their replacements on the cheap. Discount stores can help in your Real Food Journey.
I personally frequent discount stores all the time for all sorts of things. I became a frequent flier when I began changing my own lifestyle. Now I go for fun. I stop by a health food store nearby and pick up a tasty beverage like kombucha, stevia soda or flavored mineral water and take it in with me in my stroller’s cupholder. Sometimes I even have one of these in my purse here from the same health food store. They typically run about $3.
In my city of Sarasota, FL, discount stores are in abundance. We have Ross, Home Goods, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Beall’s Outlet and Tuesday Morning. I’m going to share what a real foodie sees and zooms in on when they go to these places.

There’s all kinds of high-end ceramic bakeware and enameled cast iron. This same shelf a few weeks ago was almost all enameled cast irons by Le Creuset and some other brands.
Kitchen gadgets galore! Wood, silicone and stainless steel in abundance.
Lotsa variety of stainless cookware.
Cast Iron on the cheap:
Glass French Presses to avoid hot, heated plastic from coffee machines, kcups and pods and whatever numerous names they go by now. You’ll also save a fortune per pound by buying your own coffee that doesn’t come in a pre-measured cup of any sort.
Healthy Fats: (get your guide here). Sometimes I’ve even found potato chips cooked in avocado oil at discount stores.
Mineral-Rich Salt:
Real Maple Syrup and Honey:
Creative Food Storage: (great for sweet potatoes, potatoes, plantains, lemons, limes, etc.) The produce bags they come in typically make them rot much quicker. My pantry has very short shelving, so I use this kind of stuff and keep some storage containers on the countertop.
Hope this helps you! Shop wisely and have fun!
