I used Azure Standard for the first time in late November and blogged about it here. I liked the products so much and REALLY appreciated how much money I saved, that I went ahead and purchased about 3/4 of our grocery budget through Azure for this month.
I’m going to list what I purchased. Please note: We already have a lot of grassfed beef left in our freezer, organic frozen fruits and veggies. My spices and herbs are already well-stocked and we have grains for bread and baked goods to last months from my last purchase through Azure, as well some leftover raw cheese. Most of my baking ingredients are in full stock already, so I didn’t need much of that stuff this month. However, I’ve already started filling my cart on Azure’s site for next month and I’m going to be purchasing many of their frozen fruits and veggies. I’ll save if I buy the bulk amounts, not the single bags. I’ll also save on gas money instead of running around to multiple places to find everything affordably.
I’m also already stocked with basics like avocado oil, olive oil, pastured lard and a few gallons of maple syrup. When I run out of the syrup, Azure’s maple syrup is a good deal and I’ll order from them when needed.
I took photos after some of the purchases that had already been in various states of being put away.
I bought:
20lbs organic apples
4 (2 were already put in the freezer) pastured and soy free (chickens not fed soy) chickens
2 Parmesan cheese wedges from pastured cows
Organic Carrots (10 lbs)
Organic Citrus (oranges, lemons, limes in 5lb and 10lb increments)
25lbs organic white rice
25lbs organic pinto beans (we love refried beans!)
Parchment Paper
5lbs each of organic split peas (for soup), organic chickpeas (for hummus), organic kidney beans (for chili) You can read about how to prepare beans for easy digestion here.
5lbs raw walnuts (you can read about how to prepare raw nuts, here.)
Cultured Sauerkraut and cultured pickles (I’m healing from childbirth, so these are being bought instead of made for now).
Various varieties of shampoo and conditioner without all the crap that the regular stuff has in it. I bought all the scents being discontinued since they are the cheapest and we’ve used the brand before and enjoyed it.
Deodorant without the crap in it
15lbs of organic potatoes
10lbs organic yellow onions
16 cartons of pastured, soy-free eggs
10lbs raw cheese to split up and freeze (someone already broke into to one of them. That was fast!!)
50lbs of Biokleen laundry detergent (hello, new baby in the house)
Not pictured: 15lbs pastured Rumiano Butter, a package of black peppercorns to refill our pepper grinder
(NOTE: As much as I love supporting local farmers for all kinds of things, I haven’t come across a local farmer within a reasonable driving distance that guarantees that their pastured poultry products are not only organic and pasture-based, but also not fed soy products. Soy really interferes with one’s hormones. I just had a baby and will be going through all sorts of hormonal changes. Soy-free is more important to me than buying local.)
You can see if there are Azure Standards drops near you here.
Now, the only things I’ll need to buy are raw milk from our preferred farm, a few months worth of coconut sugar from Trader Joes (theirs is the cheapest), salad veggies (Azure has some, but not all and lettuce won’t last a month in my fridge), organic chicken breasts from Costco for making chicken tenders, any pastured pork cuts from a farmer that we may want and depending or not if they have bacon, I’ll buy some organic bacon somewhere in the meantime. Also, I’ll be buying organic sweet potatoes from elsewhere.
